BIOGRAPHY

Qi Yu is a Guzheng (Chinese zither) player based in the DMV area. Born and raised in Inner Mongolia, China, she began playing the Guzheng at the age of six and was trained in both traditional and contemporary styles. In 2014, she attended the University of Kentucky as an exchange student, later earning a master’s degree in both World Music and Recording Arts at Northern Illinois University. She is passionate about exploring ways to blend the Guzheng with Western music styles.

Beyond the stage, Qi shares her love for the Guzheng through master classes, workshops, and recording projects. For her, music is more than just playing notes—it is a powerful form of storytelling, a shared experience, and a deep emotional connection.
